Included are documents on the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act and precedents; interview notes with Tlingits by Philip Drucker, Bureau of Indian Affairs draft 1948 report of economic survey of Southeast villages by Margaret Lantis and Varden Fuller, and Paz Cabello's writings on artifacts from the Spanish voyages of discovery found in Madrid's Museo de America; a working copy of Price's bibliography, excerpts from papers of Viola Garfield and reports by Major Jefferson Columbus Davis.

Davis was born in Clark County, Indiana, near present-day Memphis, Indiana. He was born to William Davis, Jr. (1800–1879) and Mary Drummond-Davis (1801–1881), the oldest of their eight children.
